When a compliant drum is fitted with a proper sealing ring and sealed correctly, it will not leak. Common causes of leakage include: the lid not being tightened securely; a sealing ring that is aged or missing; cracks in the drum body caused by impact; deformation resulting from the storage of high-temperature materials; or the buildup of internal gas, which can force the lid open. For volatile substances, consider using a lid equipped with a vent.
